Michael O’Mara is an award winning family-run independent Publisher, which was shortlisted for Independent Publisher of the Year for The British Book Industry Awards 2016.  The company was set up thirty-five years ago and now, with a backlist of over a thousand titles, it is still a family firm, producing bestsellers and one hundred and fifty new books a year.

Your role:

We are looking for a driven, efficient self-starter to join our busy, dynamic UK & Export Sales team as the UK & Export Sales Assistant. Your role will be to assist the team to maintain their accounts, and maximise sales revenue and opportunities. Reporting to the Senior Export Sales Manager, you will assist with day-to-day administration, help put together sales presentations, organise author events and compile sales reports. You will also manage a couple of your own accounts. No experience in publishing is necessary, but proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and InDesign is preferable. We are a small company, and this role is an excellent opportunity to learn a great deal about how a successful independent publisher is run.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Reporting to Senior Export Sales Manager
  • Day-to-day administration for the UK and Export Sales Team
  • Creating sales packs, dummies and presentations as required
  • Responding to general sales enquiries both internal and external

Weekly Responsibilities

  • Compiling sales reports from Pub App, Extent and Nielsen
  • Organising event stock for author events and festivals
  • Waterstones publicity grid


Monthly Responsibilities

  • Gardners: prepare and send out monthly IBAP submissions packs
  • Gardners: fill in monthly Title Information gridsBookspeed: send monthly AI packs and covers to Marketing

    Bibliographic Manager

  • Manage Books Etc nominations and rebates
  • Update AI board and manage sales shelves
  • Manage export PowerPoint presentation – create new slides andkeep updated with changes in bibliographic data
  • Create and distribute bi-monthly export email newsletter
  • Biblio title updates for Guppy Books
  • Bookseller Previews Submissions
  • Reminders and minute-taking for monthly title launch meetings


Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Biannual Buyer Guide Submissions
  • Organising the annual backlist catalogue
  • Sales support for Signature UK Reps – admin, processing orders,attending sales conference
  • Organising catalogue and advance copy mailings for UK and export
  • Create sell sheets for sales team and reps
  • Assist with covering post room reception when necessary
