Plus 10 brilliant book bundles for runner ups!

To celebrate Earth Day, we’re offering teachers the chance to win an art workshop with children’s illustrator Jonathan Woodward, the illustrator for Guardians of the Planet and lots of other children’s titles.

The competition is open to all children between 8-11 and we’ve teamed up with Young People’s Trust for Environment. A president of YPTE, CBBC presenter Naomi Wilkinson will judge the prize. The competition will close at midnight on 31 March, and the winners will be announced on Earth Day (22 April).

Guardians of the Planet: How to be an Eco-Hero contains compelling facts, creative activities and proactive tips for looking after the world we live in – all popping to life with Jonathan’s beautiful illustrations!

To enter, children need to read the descriptions of the seven Guardians of the Planet below, choose their favourite and create a poster that tells people about what the Guardian does and why they are important in the fight against climate change. The entry can be a drawing, painting, poster or a collage – totally up to you!

Young People’s Trust for the environment is a charity that aims to create a better future by inspiring young people to look after our world. Find out more about them here:

The Seven Guardians are:

Home Hero

From organising the recycling to thinking up cool ways to reuse rubbish, the Home Hero is committed to reducing waste in their household and to inspiring their family and friends to do the same.

Guardian of Green Energy

The Guardian of Green Energy wants to spread the word that even small lifestyle changes can make a massive difference in the fight against climate change – from reducing energy waste to encouraging family and friends to take public transport, walk or cycle more.

Food-Waste Fighter

Not only can the Food-Waste Fighter cook up a mean meal with leftovers, they are also passionate about inspiring others to eat green as well. From consuming less meat to composting and tackling packaging problems, they’re a brilliant ambassador for eating in an eco-friendly and ethical way.

Freshwater Friend

Water is something that many people take for granted … but not the Freshwater Friend! Whether they’re taking part in a river clean-up or finding creative ways to save water around the home, they’re committed to conserving that precious H2O.

Keeper of the Coasts and Oceans

Oceans are incredible places, and this Guardian is passionate about protecting these unique and delicate habitats. From cleaning up beaches and protecting plastic pollution, they get involved in any way they can, and encourage their family and friends to help out too.

Friend of the Forests

The Friend of the Forests knows how important trees are to the well-being of the planet, and their BFF are the trees in their local neighbourhood. This Guardian takes every opportunity to support trees – from volunteering at a local nature reserve to adopting a tree on their street.

Wildlife Warden

The Wildlife Warden loves animals – whether they are on the side of the world or in their own back garden. From sponsoring endangered species and supporting conservation campaigns to planting bee-friendly plants, this Guardian does everything they can to support biodiversity and protect the planet’s living things.
