The world of A Million…. all started when my dad gifted me a fountain pen, the pen itself was a gift from his senior officer dating 50 years ago, I started hand drawing black and white ink illustrations and never looked back. Cats have always been one of my favourite subjects, hence, A Million Cats is the first in the series. My art has gradually taken shape over the years but my love of drawing anything cute and chubby stays the same.
A number of adult colouring books are very intricate and detailed, in contrast, the A Million series is full of simpler designs that are engaging to colour. It’s fun, and the cuteness allows colourists to enjoy the creative process in the most relaxing and gratifying way. Each page tells a different story, sparking the reader’s curiosity and imagination. The cute and quirky illustrations will appeal to adults and children which is great for quality family time.
It means a lot to me when people tell me how my books help them de-stress and move forward in difficult times, that they bring joy and happiness just by colouring in the designs.
When I was five years old, I watched my first Hayao Miyazaki film called My Neighbour Totoro. There was a magical cat character. Every time Totoro summoned him, he transformed into a cat bus and drove people to their destination. As a child, it completely rocked my world, and I always dreamt that I could be the passenger one day. Growing up watching Japanese animations and cartoons really shaped me as an artist. I’m forever drawn to something cute and magical!
My creative process starts with hand sketching. This allows me to transform my ideas freely, I will then use ink on my drawings and finally refine everything digitally. I still enjoy drawing by hand, it brings me so much joy.
I really enjoyed working on A Million Little Monsters and I would say it’s one of my favourites in the series. The monsters are out of this world, and you can colour them any way you want! The illustrations are very imaginative and whimsical with a variety of detail levels, from simple designs for beginners to intricate drawings for experienced colourists. Many colourists also enjoy colouring A Million Sloths for its chill vibes and sleepy charm. It also helps them to relax and escape to the world of mindfulness and cuteness.
