We are benefitting from the author's own first-hand archaeological research. Donald Ryan's own work in the Valley of the Kings has included an excavation of the tomb of the royal vizier, Amenemopet, one of the key characters in this book. He also rediscovered three lost tombs that once contained the mummies of monkeys and a dog, possibly the pets of Amenhotep II, who is also featured in the book.
