Michael O’Mara Books is to publish How to Beat Scammers by Nick Stapleton, presenter of BBC’s Scam Interceptors and expert on fraud, theft and con artistry.
How to Beat Scammers is a comprehensive guide to safeguarding yourself or loved ones from being scammed by phone, email, phishing and all other known fraud avenues. Scammers cost the UK up to £17 billion per year – a third of our defence budget, or 10 per cent of our annual NHS spend. And with evermore sophisticated means via online channels, we are all vulnerable, with ordinary people both young and old losing their life savings, just by clicking on the wrong link or being caught momentarily off-guard on the phone.
In the first book of its kind, Stapleton has put together a fail-safe handbook covering all known scams, from prevention and protection through to what to do if you think you’ve fallen victim to a scam and how to reclaim stolen money.
Nick Stapleton, author, said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to have signed with Michael O’Mara to publish How to Beat Scammers. Having spent over a decade investigating the people for whom scamming your money is a 9-5 job, I’ve known that this book needed writing for some time. We live in the golden age of fraud, and unfortunately the emotional, psychological and financial effects on the population are appalling. This book is going to be the tool that everyone needs at their side to keep their money safe.’
Louise Dixon, Editorial Director at Michael O’Mara, said: ‘While many live in fear of parents or grandparents being defrauded, it’s been proven time and again that youth and tech literacy are no barrier to being duped. Losing your life savings is something no one thinks could happen to them, until it does. Nick’s book is both an unbelievable exposé into the murky scamming ecosystem and an invaluable handbook for getting ahead and protecting families from harm.’
Louise Dixon acquired World All language rights from Jackie Gill at Jackie Gill Management.
How to Beat Scammers: the complete guide to safeguarding yourself and your loved ones from fraud, will be published by Michael O’Mara Books on Thursday 13 February 2025, priced £14.99 in paperback.
