2015 saw the launch of a brand new imprint from Michael O’Mara, LOM ART.  LOM ART showcases inspirational talent and innovative ideas from across the arts.

LOM ART has established itself as a leading publisher of inspirational stationery and to celebrate this, we are delighted to announce our second illustration award.

The Brief:

We would like you to design a front and back cover for a book called The Creative Inspiration Notebook – a stationery product which will feature elements of illustration or doodling to whet the creative appetite combined with blank space for the user to explore their own creativity, with two sample spreads for what the notebook could look like inside. Originality is key.

The prize is your chance to win a mentoring lunch with a LOM ART illustrator, editor and designer, as well as £1,000 in prize money. The second-prize winner will receive a cash prize of £500. The third-prize winner will receive a cash prize of £250.

The LOM ART Notebook Illustration Award is an opportunity for illustrators of all ages. Non-UK residents are welcomed, but all entrants must be eligible to attend the mentoring lunch in London, if they win first prize.

We advise entrants that ideally they should have a reasonable standard of English so that, if they win the first prize, they are able to get the most out of their mentoring lunch.
There is no fee for entry, though the sender must prepay all shipping costs, insurance, customs duties and handling fees for all entries.

All shortlisted submissions must be posted in a single shipping container to:

Entries must be supplied in the following format:

HARD COPIES

  1. An A3 board showing the full jacket to scale 1:1.
  2. A short, typewritten text (max. 50-100 words only) submitted as a Word document, explaining the concept for your design.
  3. A separate A3 board demonstrating the development of the thought process from the original research to the final concept.
  4. The sender must prepay all shipping costs, insurance, customs duties and handling fees for all entries.

DIGITAL COPIES

  1. Entries must be accompanied by a disc or USB with high-resolution PDFs of all entry components listed above. They should be 300 dpi and CMYK.

1. Deadline for Entries

Entries will be accepted between 00:01 (GMT) on Monday, 30th May 2016 and 12:00 (GMT) on Friday, 2nd September 2016.

2. Eligibility

3. Designs

Entrants may submit one design for this prize. You may not submit more than one design.

4. Submissions

All entries must be supplied physically from Monday 30th May 2016, 00:01 (GMT). Entries submitted in any other way, including by email, will not be accepted.

Entries must be accompanied by a disc or USB with a high-resolution PDF, 300 dpi, CMYK of your entry.

5. Terms and Conditions of Entry: In Detail

  1. There is no fee to enter the competition.
  2. Closing date for receipt of all entries is 12:00 (GMT) on Friday, 2nd September 2016
  3. This competition is not open to employees of Promoter, their families, agents and anyone else connected with this competition.
  4. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt. Entries via agents or third parties are invalid and shall not be considered.
  5. All correctly completed entries shall be forwarded to a judging panel, comprised as follows, who will select a shortlist of entries for each category:
    a) Managing Director, Art Editor, Publishing Director, Senior Design Manager and guest judges.
  6. The shortlist will be announced on mombooks.com on Monday 3rd October 2016, 12:00 GMT.
  7. The shortlisted entrants will be contacted in writing by Friday 30th September, 12:00 GMT.
  8. Entries will not be returned and the Promoter accepts no responsibility for the loss of or damage to any portfolios or other cases in which shortlisted entrants send their resubmissions.
  9. The winning design will be the one which, in the opinion of the judges, best fulfill the brief.
  10. The first-prize winner will be offered a mentoring lunch with a LOM ART illustrator, editor and designer and a cash prize of £1,000. The second-prize winner will receive a cash prize of £500. The third-prize winner will receive a cash prize of £250.
  11. The prizes are non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered to the first-prize winners. However, if, at the sole discretion of the judges, none of the entries is of a sufficiently high standard to merit the awards, no prizes, or only second and third prizes, may be awarded.
  12. Events may occur that render the design competition itself or the awarding of the prizes impossible due to reasons beyond the control of the Promoter. The Promoter may, at its absolute discretion, vary or amend the competition and the terms thereof and the winners agree that, in such event, no liability shall attach itself to the Promoter, provided that any substituted prize shall be of no lesser value.
  13. The decision of the judges is final and correspondence will be entered into only at the absolute discretion of the Promoter.
  14. The winner agrees to take part in reasonable post-event publicity and to the use of his or her name and photographs in such publicity.
  15. All entrants hereby license to Promoter the use of their entry for display on any Promoter-owned or third-party website or other media for publicity purposes.
  16. Each entrant warrants to Promoter that his/her entry is original, their wholly owned creation and made without the inclusion of material owned by any third party. Entrants will keep the Promoter harmless from any claims in relation to their entry alleging that the entry infringes the personal or proprietary right of any other person.
  17. Promoter will use any data submitted by entrants only for the purposes of running the competition, unless otherwise stated in the entry details. By entering this competition, all entrants consent to the use of their personal data by Promoter for the purposes of the administration of this competition and any other purposes to which the entrant has consented.
  18. Promoter may disqualify any entrant whose entry does not comply with these terms and conditions (in Promoter’s sole opinion) or who, in Promoter’s sole determination, has acted in a manner that is fraudulent, dishonest or unjust to other entrants including, without limitation, tampering with the operation of the competition, manipulating or rigging votes, hacking, deceiving, cheating or by harassing or threatening other entrants, the panel or a representative of Promoter.
  19. These terms and conditions are governed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and the courts of the same shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any claims arising out of or in connection with this promotion.
